I had to start with this one! We have now been in Port Douglas for 5 days and seem to have gotten stuck here. It seems a bit of a shame to stay in one place when there is so much to explore in this huge country but as Al says 'chill out Saskia, we are on holiday....' We have asked a few people - both locals and travellers - what they recommend and all of them have said that its not really worth going down south because of the damage of the hurricane and this has eased my guilty conscience somewhat!
I think that these photos speak for themselves....
The Great Barrier Reef was spectacular. The coral was great and the fish amazing. One thing I was surprised about was that the reef itself is actually quite far out. I guess our reference point was the Maldives where the reef is really close to the shore but here its a good 1 hour trip by boat. Not that we minded of course because the boat trip itself was great. We didnt take too many photos cause there was a photographer on board and we figured that his photos would be much better than ours (and they were!) but these are on a CD and our laptop doesnt have a CD drive so we will download these later. In the meantime, here are just two shots to give you an idea...
The day before we took a trip out to Cape Tribulation. This area is the only place where 2 world heritage sites meet ie the rain forests and the Great Barrier Reef.
Picutre perfect......
Where the 2 world heritage sites - mangro swamps and coral sea
